The homes along the North Metter Walking Tour are generally older than those in the South Metter Residential Historic District.
This walking tour will take you past many of those historical homes. We have highlighted those that appear in the book "The History of Metter and Candler County, Georgia." There are also many other interesting homes along the walking tour. |
Park in one of the downtown parking areas between North and South Broad streets.
Proceed to N Lewis street and walk north along the east side of Lewis. You will soon see the Soloman Parrish house at 90 N Kennedy. Turn left onto Lee Street for one block to N Rountree. You will see the Mack Mercer house at that corner. Turn right and walk one block north on Rountree to Lillian Street. Turn left onto Lillian for one block to N Kennedy. |
Turn left onto N Kennedy. Walk south along the west side. You'll see the Algerine Trapnell house across the street on your left.
Keep going to the next corner (N Kennedy and Lee). The W J Willie, W D Kennedy and B B Trapnell houses are on that corner. Walk south along N Kennedy until you see the Ida Mills Collins house. |
If you parked in the 100th block of S Kennedy for the South Metter Walking Tour, just keep walking straight ahead two blocks to your car. If you parked in a downtown parking area between North and South Broad streets, turn left and walk along North Broad to your car.
If you want to learn more about the history of these homes, refer to Chapter Three "Historic Homes and Buildings" in the book "The History of Metter and Candler County, Georgia." |
